'Mae' is essential in the sentence as it is the verb 'to be'. Welsh is Verb-Subject-Object, so the meaning in this sentence is 'Mae = is; 'r = the; mwnci= monkey; eisiau = wanting; bara = bread'. When transposed to English this gives us = 'The monkey is wanting bread'; which we tend to write as 'The monkey wants bread'.
