hello. A native Nepali speaker here. Nice to see people interested in learning Nepali. I was thinking of creating/contributing to English for Nepali speakers. Can't find where I'd request that.

https://incubator.duolingo.com/apply You can apply here if you still want, click on choose other in the drop down. I'd love it if you did, there's a large Nepalese community at home, some of whom struggle with English, be great to have an understanding of it!

Hi XxSprinkleFoxyxX ,

as for almost(*) any possible course (and not only from English ;) ), there is no reason for it to not being added one day. Now, when is another story. ;)

(*) "almost" because courses like "English for Klingon speakers" will never be added and courses like "Spanish for Catalan speakers" may also not be added.

I hope so, I think Nepali folks would be willing to contribute, they love sharing their culture! My bf (he's Nepali) is trying to help me learn it at the moment since there aren't many resources, but it'd be great to have it in duolingo so I can study and practice on my own too.

It would be super helpful for us in London Ontario, Canada, since we have a Nepali community and only one paid interpreter in the city! Slowly, the Nepali people are learning English, but as their children are growing, their parents and grandparents are missing out on so much information and many helpful resources. I see children slipping through the cracks in the school system and it's heart-breaking to just sit and wait to see what will happen. I work in the community and would love to be able to communicate more easily with our Nepali people!

I like to contribute for both Nepali to English, English to Nepali, Nepali to German (Deutsch) and German(Deutsch) to Nepali but i don't know how much contributor do we need for a course to be contributed. I can manage two or three more contributor for each course.

I am actually planning to one day travel to Nepal to stay in a Buddhist temple for around a year. I've been planning this for about four years, and I would love to know the language before I go.

As I doubt Duolingo plans to add Nepali in the near future, here are some good resources:

Yes! I want Nepali so badly! I just hope that it doesn't spend ions in the incubator like the Hindi course... It is a little frustrating how Duo can be so slow at releasing new languages.

As a language enthusiast, I'd love to have nepali on Duolingo. Considering how widely its speakers have spread across the globe, it is worth learning.

Now they've introduced Hindi, surely there's more hope for Nepali - the language and letters are very similar so it should be reasonably easy to develop the Nepali version.

I would love to contribute if there is any plan to launch a Nepali course on DL. Even though my Nepali is kind of "bookish" and definitely needs a lot of improvement to be more colloquial, I've been studying and actively using the language for quite a few years now so feel free to contact me for help anytime : ) I'll really dedicate a lot of time to it as Nepali is an amazing language and has quite a lot of speakers. If you include both native and second language speakers in Nepal, India, Bhoutan and all the NRN (Non Residential Nepalese), there are over 30 million speakers so it's definitely worth creating a Nepali course. Also, DL seems to be handling devanagari pretty well (judging from the Hindi course)!
