I'm sort of uncertain when to use "hans" and when to use "sin". I understand that "sin/sitt" is when it belongs to them and not someone else which is why I used it here but that wasn't accepted. Can someone explain?

Well, you could use sin in a sentence like this, but since it reflects back on the introduced person, it basically means "her own". So what you're then saying is "she is her own third wife" - not quite the same. :)

In this sentence, notice that "she" and "his" are two completely different people. Therefore you cannot use sin.
