Affixes! (The reason Esperanto works)
I was lent a copy of Winnie the Pooh in Esperanto and I have the Wizard of Oz on my tablet. I've been trying to learn a bit by jumping into reading, but was hitting snags. I kept coming across words that I didn't recognize and couldn't find. After a while I'd realize that I was staring at an affix. I keep missing the forest for the tree here. I shot over to Memrise and found some affix courses. This one seemed pretty good with 41 affixes.
Isolating them has helped me in understanding them greatly. The good doctor used quite a bit of my beloved Latin in making these and that makes me smile.
I found that the affixes just weren't clicking. I kept missing obvious words because I wasn't making the connection. For a small amount of time (it's a short course) I get a big return. I had a similar problem with correlatives and found a course to reinforce it. I also haven't finished the tree. Esperanto is on the back burner right now; I really don't have the time to put serious studying into the tree.
