Duolingo Ipad App offline??

My plan of action as of this morning was to use my ipad to learn Spanish on my commute. This however was abruptly stopped as it doesn't work offline.

Is there any way of downloading lessons that you know will be used on Ipad's etc.

Luke.

Sometimes switching to airplane mode or turning off wifi and then quickly switching to the app can result in being logged out. This is a bug that we're going to get fixed. In the meantime, here's what I suggest as a workaround: Switch back to the app slower (wait until the wifi indicator is gone or until the airplane mode icon appears).

I'm not aware of offline study being available (yet) for the iPad.

Here is the run-down for the apps and the offline mode:

  • I've heard is that Duolingo has implimented an offline mode for the Android. http://www.duolingo.com/comment/451374. From what I recall, user feedback was that the offline mode was very limited. But, with Duolingo regularly tinkering things I can imagine it will improve. Patience seems to be the keyword, as staff keep busy and updates can take time.

  • In addition, it appears to be available for the iPhone App http://www.duolingo.com/comment/727640

  • With regards to the iPad app, the closest I've found when I Googled it, was an article that talks about not losing data when you go offline. It is possible they were referring to the fact that progress is stored online and not on your device. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2421939,00.asp

  • Closest thing I could find through Duolingo's discussion search bar was some good news: iPad app will, someday, have an offline mode: http://www.duolingo.com/comment/399216

With the iPad it should download the remaining lessons inside the most recent skills you have unlocked. Test it out by turning off your wi-fi. I do it all the time.

Oh good! They added the option then? (I'm a bit behind because I don't use the apps. But, I wanted to put what I could find here since an hour had past with zero replies.)

Thank you Baris_Obdan!

Thanks for the heads up. I sort of have it sussed. Basically turn wifi on. Then click on each activity but immediately quit in a skills set. Turn Air plane mode on, not wifi off... That seems to be working!!

This is a workaround for now, but know that our iOS team is on this, aware of the issue, and going to get it fixed. Happy to hear you can learn in the meantime.

The problem I am having is that every time I turn off my WIFI it completely logs me out of the app. So unfortunately I can't log back in with no WIFI connection.

Seems a massive shame as this is perfect learning time!!!

Thanks anyway
