Is something wrong with the site, or is it just me?

For the past 2 or 3 days, the website seems to be responding much slower than normal. Is anyone else experiencing this, or is it just me?

EDIT: Thanks to all admins who responded. The site seems to be functioning much better now. Me encanta Duolingo! :)

That got me thinking of backup. What if Duolingo servers catched fire, do they have proper backup? I assume they do but one would like to know.

Duolingo is still intermittently very slow for me, especially when checking my answers in practice sessions. The slowness happens with both Chrome and Firefox. It is a little worse with Firefox but the sound is worse with Chrome. I've been getting very choppy sound when using Chrome. February 21, 2014

This is also a bug. (It's happening to me too). Don't worry, troubleshooting is aware of it, and are working to fix it :) You can still go through the lessons, the points just won't show up at this time. I'm assuming that they will show up later. And, if all else fails, you'll still get practice, and staff will be able to see that you were active so they can restore your streak if it tries to disappear on you because of this bug. ^_^

We had some trouble with our main database in the last two days (bad hardware) . We fixed the underlying problem yesterday during the site maintenance and things should be back to normal with regard to the site speed.

We will re-enable the coin stacks (weekly progress) in the next couple of days. I'm very sorry about the inconvenience.

I too felt a little panicky today when I logged in and didn't have anything on my weekly progress chart. I am so addicted to Duo that my day is not right until I have studied here. And my streak and progress chart help keep me motivated. Any time I have had a problem or concern the staff or other Duo addicts explain what's going on. I am so thankful for this site and all the hardworking staff. At the risk of sounding overly dramatic I have to say that Duolingo has changed my life. And for the first time I feel like I'm actually part of a community. Love to all!

I'm using it anyway. I figure the points will probably show up, I can safegaurd my streak (even if I can't see it, staff can still see my activity), and I need the practice today. :)

The points don't show up on the weekly charts, but they do show up (as well as they ever have) on the "stream," so they're probably stored somewhere for when this problem is fixed. I say "as well as they ever have" because what shows up on the stream is often lower than the actual points earned. The lessons are working pretty well for me (& I completed my daily stint), although the site did hang once.

I have also been having problems especially on my android device. This evening it was really hard to do anything. The site was unavailable some twenty minutes ago. Hope they fix it soon and next time they put some announcement or info as to be prepared and not to lose one's streak which would have almost happened to me.

I don't think that this was a planned outage, but if Duolingo starts acting a bit squirrelly I usually check http://twitter.com/duolingo to see if there are any officially acknowledged problems.

I want to say, actually, just how well DL have done.

I 'sh*t' myself when my mobile app. stopped working. I was scrolling back and each time, finding a previous page, with a unit or two missing, as completed....so I logged out. I don't think I've ever logged out since I joined 6 months ago, or longer. Then I wasn't sure what I was actually logged in under! Thick? not particulary, because I also happen to be on the computer version as a separate user, (Unintentionally) under my e-mail addy. I seriously wondered if I tried 'password recovery' using my e-mail. whether I'd lose both my app and computer log-ins.

The site was simply down for 'maintenance'.....after some frustrating time.... a message told me so. But, in short 'I am restored...points, Lingots, Streaks and all.' I truly hope most of you will eventually report the same.

I truly admire the professionalism of DL and their computer stuff, which is way beyond my small little brain. lol :) ['small,little' would be called tautology in UK English! 'Unecessary repetition']

I've had problems with it kicking me back to the home page at the end of a test without crediting me for the test. (Annoying when I had three hearts left!) Today, I don't appear to have any points showing up under weekly progress - although they are adding to my general score. I've done a couple of timed and un-timed practices but I'm not showing any points in the column for today (or for the rest of the week). Good to know it's being looked into. :)

    Thank you for posting this. I work on a very old laptop that I would have replaced a year ago if I'd've had the funds to do so then. That said, I really thought the RAM was finally going or something. I'm really glad to hear it's the site and not my computer.

    Thanks to everyone here for their comments about site problems. I was very disappointed to find that I had lost all my skill points when I'd worked so hard to keep them up every day. I also thought there was something wrong with my new tablet, which I bought specifically for my language practice, with the slow response. Now I know that there are site problems which are being worked on, I am much relieved and very grateful to Duolingo staff for all their hard work. This is the best language programme I've ever found and I'd be gutted not to be able to keep using it.

    I was taking the Spanish certificate test earlier today and the responses from the server were getting slower and slower, then I got an error message saying that the site was having problems and to try again later. I submitted an e-mail inquiry because I really hope I can get those 25 lingots back :-(

    I'm seeing the same issues. The website runs slowly at times and also the weekly progress chart is blank for all languages. It was showing up OK yesterday.

    If a bug costs you lingots or streaks, just file a report using the Support button on the left and they will restore what was lost after reviewing your data. It might take a couple of days is all. So, if you lose your streak over this, remember to continue to sign in every day and do what you would normally do to earn points, do a lesson or what not, even if it shows that it is not awarding you any points. :)

    Check here http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1426103 to make sure you have done what you can to determine your streak. If you are experiencing a lost streak, staff can view the activity on your account and determine whether or not to restore your streak. I hope this helps!

    It not only did it to me a few minutes ago, but I had just finished the last question in a lesson by translating a hideous sentence correctly and it dropped me, so that I had to start over. I hope I never have to translate that sentence again!

    All of my streaks except Spanish are gone. It also claims my skill points for the week are gone, though I'm not sure if they are still reflected in the overall total(I have a lot). I tried a streak freeze before midnight to preserve them, but it does not seem to have worked. Not the end of the world, but I'm disappointed.

    The site's been very slow for me for well over a month now. So slow it can freezes my browser trying to load (I use Foxfire but it happens in Chrome too). But I've had even more problems connecting to the site in recent days.

    The interpreter speaks in short bursts and doesn't always complete the sentence. I have no score at all today even though I have completed several lessons, and therefore it will appear as if I haven't logged in today and I will lose my run of 29 days.       Yes! A kid in my class and I were just about to finish a section but, oh don't worry I can just sit here for an hour while you make the site work. IT WAS FINE TO ME! sorry. i just hate when that happens
