Polish verbs

[deactivated user]

Hello! Duolingo has been helpful with learning vocabulary; but, lacks a little in grammar. I was just wondering if there was a website or a book that could help with learning how to conjugate/ use Polish verbs? I have seen some of the conjugation websites for more "popular" languages (ie: French, Spanish, German, Russian); and was just wondering if there was anything for Polish? Thank you! x

https://www.duolingo.com/comment/13589661 has information on how to find tables and how to use them, but is not really helpfull with learning the rules.

http://www.skwierzyna.net/polishgrammar.pdf has a rather good chapter on verbs

Dzieki for your help :) I couldn't get the page on Duolingo to come up; but, I can try again later. The Skwierzyna website was very informative though. X

If link does not work look for "Conjugation of Verbs in Polish" in the most popular all time.

Can anyone help with how you get "Przesle" from the verb "wysyłac", I can't find it in the table?

Aha, so this is a synonym "przesyłać". Is it only used for electronic comunication?

Well, not a synonym but a form of its perfective verb, "przesłać".

I wouldn't say "only", but it does make me think of electronic communication, true.

The context was sending pictures via SMS, so as we don't have perfective forms in English would "upload" be closer?

Of course I'm not a native speaker of English so I don't know many nuances, but I never considered sending someone a picture via SMS "uploading"...

"to upload", I'd say, translates to "wgrać" (perfective) and "wgrywać" (imperfective).

What do you think, as a fluent speaker of more than one language, of this theory? https://www.linguisticsociety.org/content/does-language-i-speak-influence-way-i-think This is my first time learning another language, and I'm finding this aspect very interesting.

I never gave that theory much thought, at first it seems rather weird to me, but then I guess there are some things that are just easier to say in English and I feel more comfortable with them in English. The 'awkward stuff' mostly.

My girlfriend teaches English and says that it often is more natural to her than Polish. I'd say around 20% of our conversations, especially written, is in English. Sometimes we switch mid-sentence. Language is a weird thing.

I meet up with some Polish friends once a month for a meal & they echo what you just said. Some English phrases are replacing Polish, esp. email & txt (OK Vs dobrz etc.). Conversly I'm finding that some things just sound better in Polish! For instance we don't have an equivalent for bogactwo that feels the same when used in conversation.

I made a set of 100 common Polish verbs conjugated in present tense on the Tinycards flashcard app. You can use them to practice present tense conjugations. I don't know how to put link here but search on Polish language flashcards under Diana.
