Why is it du vin?

Why do some of the questions say Il boit du vin when wine is masculine? Wouldn't it be de vin?

"du" is compound word that represents "de le", cos that's awkward to say.

du is masculine and is the contraction of "de le"

Masculine nouns use “du” = de+le, feminine nouns use “de la” = (drumroll...) de+la
