I was taught as a child that yeu was for romantic love, and to use thuong for family, pets, stuffed animals, etc.

The north uses yêu for everything. The south uses thuong.

It's correct if it is a George RR Martin novel

Same here, hearing it said this way is weird for me!

From the notes in the questions section, I would have thought that this should be "Bạn có yêu mẹ của bạn không?" or "Bạn yêu mẹ của bạn phải không?" Are có/phải not actually necessary for yes/no questions?

Could you also say Bạn (có) yêu mẹ của mình không?

Shouldn't there be a co in the phrase?

Why is "không" at the end when the translation is "DO you love your mother"? When I saw the "không" in there, I assumed the question was "Don't you love your mother?" I'm completely and utterly confused by the use of "không" here.
