I know it's a translation for brown. However, over here so many men have the name "Bruno." I haven't heard it used to refer to color, unless maybe they are trying to distinguish between shades.

I have been taught that "il bruno" refers to a dark-haired man and "la bruna" to a brunette. Am I completely off the track here?

I believe that's right. It also seems to apply to animals, kind of like a dark-haired dog or bear -hence bruno is accepted here.

Can 'Bruno' also be accepted?
