A sudden change in layout?
All of a sudden everything is blue and simplified. I really don't like it. Does anyone else? I'm hoping Duolingo gives us an option to go back to the original layout, I do not like this at all.
Maintaining two different versions would not be a good idea at all. I am 99.9% sure that they won't give people an option to go back to the old layout. Personally, I love the new layout, but it's experiencing some performance problems atm.
It's not just a skin. It's a completely different UI. If there were two versions, Duolingo would have to waste a lot of time supporting both versions. Not only would they have to develop new features for both versions instead of just one, they would have to deal with bugs that would affect both versions differently. It would just be a mess.
I don't like it, it looks like the sort of material I'm used to seeing for 7 year olds and I'm not a 7 year old, but you can't please all of the people in terms of appearance. What I really don't like is that suddenly nothing works! Including trying to make a new post to Troubleshooting to report that nothing works.
Good! Like I said, you can't please all of the people.
But suddenly I've got the old layout back and the site works again. Hooray.
"it looks like the sort of material I'm used to seeing for 7 year olds"
I would have said 4 year olds, but...
It's not just Duo; all of the websites have begun using the same type design.
I am grateful that they haven't taken away any functionality (except for vocabulary).
Anyway, it's free and a wonderful site, so I'm just happy it exists, at all.
Although, I do wish that all the websites could go back to looking as if they were designed for adults... sigh
What is inherently childish about a colorful and sleek design? I love stuff like this as do most people, which is why they are switching to this new version.
I was being nice. :D Mine stopped working while I had the new design, so I would like to keep the old one, please. Though I'm sure Grace-Georgia is right, they'll do what they think suits the demographic that they want to attract.
What I feel is that Duolingo doesn't care.. Whether we love it or hate it.. They'll do what they choose to do regardless of what we say.
I don't think they mean that. They care deeply about us, in fact, they're the greatest staff there is, it really feels like they listen to us all the time. It's not about whether you love it or hate it, they just want the best for you and the best for the process of learning. They just do what they think it's the best for us. Sometimes there are tough decisions, which are not going to like to all of the users, but they have to take them anyway.
I'm also having trouble with the lessons themselves, they won't go past the first question.
