  5. "I eat an apple."

"I eat an apple."

Translation:Tôi ăn một quả táo.

May 7, 2016

quả vs trái ... seems like these are both measure words, but ... what's the difference?

When it comes to fruits, those two are interchangeable. The north uses quả more than the south.

Trái = fruit. So technically trái táo = apple fruit or a fruit of apple.

quả refers to things that are round like fruits, balls, the globe, etc.

The same words "trái", "quả" for spherical types (dạng hình cầu): Trái Đất # Quả Đất (Earth) ; trái banh # quả banh (the ball) ; trái cam # quả cam (the orange) ; trái đấm # quả đấm (the punch) ; khẩu ngữ : trái đắng # quả đắng ; but "quả trứng gà" (chicken egg) <> "trái trứng gà" (the Lekima is fruit) !

There's no difference. Both of them refer fruits, balls and round things., except that Northerners often say ''quả'' and Southerner say ''trái''.

As far as i know, they are the same, but quả is more common is northern accent, while trái is in the south accent

Yes, that's true

Yesterday they said "Tôi ăn một quả táo" was correct. Today they said it was wrong.

Why do we have to put "qua" or "trai" before apple? In previous lessons, we didn't.
