Word order on this sentence
I was a bit confused about the word order because I thought I had it pretty well until I saw this: Dat hebben we gisteren gedaan. If I had made this sentence it would be: Gisteren we hebben dat gedaan. Why does we come after hebben? And why is dat not before gedaan?
NOTE: I do lessons from my mobile device so that's why I didn't comment on the sentence; either way i usually get replies faster in discussions
This is called inversion, it is explained here.
In short, Dutch uses V2 word order. That means that the (conjugated) verb is always at the second position within the sentence. There are of course exceptions, like in subordinate clauses (where the verb comes at the end), that you will also have to learn.
