Where did the half-hearts go?

On the PC it is much easier to do a typo than on the tablet/phone apps which let you slide words about. As well, to do a lesson on the PC you must answer 20 questions. On the iPhone/iPad it is 16. That is 20% less.

To compensate we had half-hearts. If you made an error you got a chance to fix it and if you fixed it you only lost half a heart.

I think it's shame they have gone.

They really helped me finish some of the lessons.

DL did some type of statistical survey that said that the "hearts" caused more people to drop out of DL. People may have dropped out, but I don't think the hearts caused it. If it wasn't for the vocabulary, I would drop out too. There are too many errors. and now we can not easily get by them w/o the extra heats.

If you scroll through the posts you will find a more detailed discussion on this topic. I know my explanation is not quite correct.

Appreciate the feedback on this peter2108! We did test this feature quite a lot and found people liked Duolingo less with it on :/ We're retesting with the new design. Take a look at Luis' (Duolingo's founder) comments on this: http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1503254
