Several audio clips not playing
I'm having a lot of issued with audio clips not playing in the lessons. I'm having to copy and paste the answers just to complete the lesson. Very frustrating.
I've noticed quite a few of these audio-only exercises that lack any audio at all, and have been reporting each one as I find it. I think they were meant to be removed when the new audio was released a couple weeks ago, but several remain. Reporting them as you encounter them might help get them noticed by admin and either corrected or removed.
I'm reporting every one of them whenever I see them, but they seem to be so numerous I think the administrators need to take a more thorough look at all of them.
I feel your pain. At least they don't fail you if you get 3 wrong anymore!
thank you. but still Duolingo manager doooooooooooooooo somethinggggggggggggggg
Has anyone else noticed that the problem seems to be fixed? I haven't encountered a missing audio file in days.
I've gone a week without encountering the problem, only for it to come back when the general strengthening exercises sent me to a different part of the tree, so I didn't pay too much attention to the fact that I haven't seen any such errors in the last few days.
I'll enjoy this stretch of audio until my path makes it disappears. I learn so much more when I can repeat it until it feels normal. I noticed that the audio files within the "Discussion" portion of each question are still sadly lacking.
I sent a few bug reports and soon after that they disappeared. Haven't seen any since then. Squeaky wheel does indeed get the grease.
That's how I felt when I sent hundreds of reports of audio files that were too quiet. Squeaky wheel, for sure.
I have the Duolingo app installed on my Windows 10 laptop. I don't use it very often, but I did an exercise on it today, and I encountered two exercises that displayed a speaker icon, but that didn't have any audio available.
An brabús and An buiséad both had audio with the original recordings, but they don't have audio with the new recordings, and they were both displayed with the speaker icon in the Windows 10 app. (I didn't get them as "type what you hear" questions, but that might just have been the luck of the draw).
The app was last updated on April 26th, the day before the new voice was introduced - maybe this issue will be resolved with the next update.
I never saw the bug while using the app, but I don't use the app that often. I haven't had many issues in the last month or so, but who knows where more bugs are hiding.
I'm not sure where else to comment, but two weeks later and the problem seems even larger than it did when I made this thread. When I see a "Type What You Hear" exercise, I just assume that it will not contain any audio. For an otherwise exceptional course, it is quite frustrating.
It depends on where you are in the course, I think. I've completed a number of general strengthening sessions in the last few days where I didn't get any "Type what you hear" exercises, but I had a session yesterday with 5 of them, all with no audio. I reported them all, but I didn't make a note of them myself, but I believe there were at least 4 different sentences involved.
I made a note of all the ones I've encountered. So far, there are thirteen on my list. I always report it, but haven't seen any improvement. To be fair, I haven't been checking my list against the questions that work correctly.
I'm now at 26 examples of missing audio files. I have a Word document of them, and can predict which one will be the offending sentence with about 25% accuracy. I report them all.
"Tá an fhianaise soiléir." is asking me to type what I hear but isn't playing.
"Thángamar anseo." came up in a general strengthening practice without a timer, asking me to type what I hear but not playing any audio.
Normally, I don't come here to post each sentence that is missing its audio file. But this one made me laugh at the sheer length of it. "Chríochnaigh sé a phost ar an Luan agus thosaigh sé a phost nua inné. Faigheann sé níos mó airgid agus tá an oifig níos fearr." I was practicing Past Verbs 1 on my laptop. I'm using Chrome on Windows 7.
Maybe I'm not smart enough, or just lazy, but posting here is the best way I can think of to document them.
I keep a .doc going. To your credit, you keep track of which exercise you were doing. Half the time, I have no idea.
I'm beginning to think that it doesn't make any difference. I'm now beginning to encounter some of these "Type what you hear" exercises that you commented on 6 weeks ago, that still haven't been fixed. Assuming you used the "Report a problem" button as well as adding a comment, they should have been fixed by now, if any updates are being made.
I didn't keep a list when this this problem first cropped up, because I assumed that the reports were being acted on, but I have a list of 30 sentences over the last 2 weeks or so, and I'm only doing 2 exercises a day! At that rate, I would estimate that there may be hundreds of these sentences.
Yes, reporting it doesn't seem to matter. But, we can entertain ourselves by randomly choosing a sentence on our list to plu in when there is no audio. Sometimes, it works! (btw- I'm at 34 sentences, and I do very few new exercises each day. I'm all about repetition.)
"Tá smaoineamh maith agam!" (no link because there are no comments) asks me to type what I hear but plays no audio.
"An cuspóir." asks me to type what I hear but plays no audio.
Chonaic mé an crann nua os comhair na scoile. is bugged and plays no audio. Took the time to report it even though it meant the use of a streak freeze. Also, submitted a bug report.
1 August 2016: Got no audio on the "Type what you hear" question "Imrím agus ólaim.", on a Verbs Present 1 strengthening exercise. (I got this on a mobile app so wasn't able to report a problem directly on the question.)
18 December 2016: Got no audio on the "Type what you hear" question "Níl an cineál sin aici", on a Abstract Objects 2 strengthening exercise. (This happened on a mobile app so wasn't able to report a problem directly on the question.)
