Why is there no "yn" between "ddim" and "nôl"?

There is...: 'nôl is how it is often written, with the apostrophe indicating the abbreviation from yn ôl:

  • Fydd e ddim yn ôl erbyn wyth - better in writing
  • Fydd e ddim 'nôl erbyn wyth - as it is heard when spoken

Just leaving it as nôl risks mixing it up with nôl...

(nôl - fetching, to fetch:

  • Fydd ei ddim yn ei nôl 'nôl erbyn wyth, yn ôl Noel) - He won't fetch it back before eight, according to Noel)
