Words on word list not updating.

I have quite a number of "very weak" words on my word list whose details are not updating when I come across them in lessons. Is anyone else having this problem?

They include such words as Tengo, tiene, año.... not really words that I would consider weak at all at this level!

Estuviste is apparently my weakest word - and according to my word list I've not used it for over a year. Actually ... I just used it in the last lesson ... and last week!

If I copy the list into excel it tells me most of these words have a strength of 0 and yet they do not come up in regular strengthening exercises.

There would appear to be a significant glitch here (these words disappeared from my list about a year ago and then reappeared last month but now apparently are not updating.)

I don't know if this is the best place to post this info so that whoever has the power to sort this out, can see it?

I do really appreciate Duo & understand that there are limited resources to deal with things like this. But it would be really appreciated if someone could look into this. Thanks for all your hard work! :-)

I started out trying to keep my words at full strength, not just the lessons. I would go to the word list, and practice the lesson it showed for the word. Some of them seem to never update. Not only does the strength not update, but the date last practiced does not update. Sometimes I have repeated the indicated lesson 4 or 5 times. Very frustrating. Giving up on using the word list.

This exact problem is happening for me as well.

I do. This is the third post about this topic in recent days. I hope Duolingo does something about it.

Could you edit this post and move it to the "troubleshooting" forum? Don't delete it and make a new one, just edit the post and change which forum it's part of.

OK - Thanks, Done. - Only problem is, whenever I try to "edit" a post, Duo greys out all the text I entered & I have to re-enter it all! Annoying! (I did go back & copy/paste, but even so!)

Amazing. This issue is ongoing for two years. I was going to make a new post about the inaccuracy of the word list and fortunately searched first, so I'll simply say this problem still exists - in my experience for both Spanish and German.

I'm writing some of my own code and hoped to import the word list (just scraping the website, not using any AP) and began to notice this and it's built up over time. I now have 105 terms in Spanish that I have put in my own vocabulary file (I grab them as I first encounter them) that are missing in my word list. A quick eyeball scan reveals the same thing and the wordlist at duome, which presumably is from an api, has the same problems.

An accurate word list would be REALLY helpful. I can't quite understand how this can't be solved since first reported two years ago unless it's just not a priority so I vote for making it a priority.

Yes, still happening. I just submitted a bug about it. I hope they can finally get this resolved. It might not seem important, but for anyone like me who is a little OCD perfectionist, it's annoying.

Is this forum monitored by those who can do something about it - or should I send in a bug report too?

May 18, 2016

This happened to me in a big way on about March 27: about 900 new French words and 500 new Spanish words. Since then, I've seen dozens of posts about it. The moderators must be aware, but so far I've seen no official explanation. I, too, filed a bug report, using as problem description my post from yesterday.

May 20, 2016

I would give it a bug report I did a while ago you should too maybe it will fix the issue

May 19, 2016

I have done this now.

May 20, 2016

This might be because we are in an A/B test. (We're all in several of them at any given moment.) If so, we'll just have to wait until it ends.

May 21, 2016

this has been happening to me too with German words I would like too look back on my word list but are not there after lessons thought it was only me it is really getting annoying hope they fix it

May 19, 2016

The same is true for me. I look forward to seeing if a change can be made.

Just posting on here with a query/update to like minded folks - I've recently finished my Spanish tree (on New Year's Eve) and I am now noticing that Duo is gradually updating my weak words.

Is it just coincidence or a change of programming?: ie have any of you finished trees and noticed a change with duo updating weaker words. Or have any of you noticed a change without having completed a tree? Whichever I'm very glad that it's happening!!

I still don't have any past participles on my word list but hey perhaps that's for another day!

February 10, 2017

The exact same for me! Like I practiced verde (spanish) and it said that I practiced it 3 days ago when i just practiced it! It won't reload!?

I tried to reload the page, didn't work at all. i really need help. And also when It makes it so that "clothing" is at four bars not full, so i practice it ant it still won't work! Por favor help whoever can help!

I finished my Italian tree and found all the way through the word list didn't match my use. I learnt to ignore the list all together. With regards to the gold bars, I kept a record of when I repeated an exercise so I rotated through them evenly and only used the bars as a guideline. It dropped down to 1 at times in any given topic but never blocked me out as a consequence. I also found some topics kept coming up for repeats very frequently when the gold bars were at capacity and others that were difficult came up comparitively rarely. I just repeated the latter as frequently as I felt best. Do report it though if you haven't already. It is a useful program, just make it work as best suits you. Best of luck.

And what is happening is that those little numbers right next to the spanish flag, they used to be at 15-16 but now they are at 8.

I think that when you don't learn new words that number drops. and i don't really want to because if i get on see that two are at 4 bars then i practice it and i get 20 EXP for the day and i am done yet i still have more that i could learn. ):

April 26, 2017

Have you tried writing in the troubleshooting forum on this?

Those numbers next to the Spanish flag are your level which I don't think should ever go down - as they are based on the amount of XP you have gained. Unless Duo are changing that too! I'd be interested to hear if you ever get an answer on this. :-)

You could also try asking here

April 26, 2017

Ok i will! Thanks so much. I don't think that it is my level i think that it is my '%fluent' that is going down it used to be %16 now it is %12. And i am sad about that. Thanks so much for telling me where the forum is, and no i did not write on it yet. Thanks again! (you wanna follow me and i follow you?).

Just posted something on this -

I think it's an iOS app issue and I've been having better success with the webpage tests updating the wordlist.

July 21, 2016

I've always found this to be a problem and I use the web version.

April 1, 2018

I am having this problem big time with French, and I am using the web version

This occurs in several other languages, including Spanish and German.
