Let me know if you need help to understand that ;-)
You can still control the status of the course you're interested in at http://incubator.duolingo.com/courses/pl/en/status.
I think you can do it. I think the biggest issue is that everything else, including the directions are in Polish on the site. I've been learning Spanish myself. I tried the English from Spanish program once and was able to do it as far as I had learned Spanish. So English to Spanish and Spanish to English are pretty much the same.
I use a Polish keyboard online: http://polish.typeit.org/
The system should accept typing nearest Latin characters where you don't have a Polish keyboard, but it is better to learn it well from the beginning, especially because ogonek under a or e or "ł" instead of "l" often means completely different word. The sound is also different, especially for "ą".
I'm Czech (our languages are similar) and I have been to Poland few times and have many Polish friends, but I have big problems with some of these special characters, especially ł/l.
In fact, if you want to avoid 'small' misunderstandings, you have to use it. For example: "Zrobię Ci łaskę" - "I do you a favor", "Zrobie Ci laske" - all diacrtics omitted, could be understand as "I give you a blowjob" (łaska - favor, laska - blowjob - in this context). Maybe sometimes this actions could be connected, but not always ;)
