if you were to translate the above english sentence into vietnamese will it still be the same? The vietnamese sentence implies a captain of the ship and in the english sentence any type of captains such as team captain or captain in the army or some other captains.

I agree. I wish they would make these types of words more clear. I mostly look up both words in a compound word so I understand it better. Otherwise, words like this can be confusing and people will end up using it in the wrong situation. Chinese is the same way.
