(IDEA) how to redesign vocabulary list! and a random idea *luis please take a look*

firstly I love duolingo, I think its a fantastic project and fascinating to watching it evolve over time. so heres a big THANKS to luis and the team!

IDEA 1, I saw recently that the duo team have decided to remove the vocabulary list, and were looking at ways to bring it back.

It struck me that a really cool way to bring the vocab list back would be as flashcards! It would be two ideas in one. Duo could adopt the good parts of the anki flash system, for example the intelligent spaced repetition system etc. so basically as you progress through the duo tree your flash card deck is slowly building. using a system like the anki system the flash cards would quickly and simply adapt to show the words you know less, which is a part of anki that works really well. it enables the user to see the stronger vocab less and the weaker ones more.

IDEA 2 is really simple and just a bit of fun, I saw luis talk about how they had tested how much the owl cries and how many tears he needs to encourage people to NOT make him cry....so it seems the owl is popular, so I had a funny idea, maybe the owl starts as an EGG! and he hatches and grows as the tree progresses!

anyway these were just a couple of little ideas, maybe the duo team have already thought of them but thought I would share.

I love your "IDEA 2"!! :D. (ª.ª)// The Owl is so popular indeed, I love it and I think is a she. I believe is very motivational, I would love to finish the tree and see her becoming an adult.

one of the things that was good about the memorise website was they had a little garden that grew and I always thought that was a really cool idea but they didn't implement it hugely well but i guess its a similar idea of growth

Yes I agree, I liked that too on memrise. Maybe we could have little owl nests for each skill and when you complete a skill they hatch and when you complete a row they fly up to the next. But since duo just had a make-over they probably won't change the tree graphics again soon.

Yes, it's a similar idea. They have it in Memrise and in Busuu too, I think. But in Busuu, you have like a garden and when you advance lessons, they give stuff for your garden, like rabbits, rain that mantain your trees green and so on. But I think that's too much. I'll be happy with just having my own Owl as a Baby and then growing. And who knows, maybe even give it a name.

maybe it starts with an egg in a barren land and the egg hatches and grows and trees grow lol

Idea# 2 is AWESOME! We just start off with an egg for an avatar and watch him grow and develop as we do throughout our exercises. Love it :D

Have you tried Quizlet. I use it not only for vocab but also grammar hints, site reminders etc.
