Please Duolingo, let me get rid of the daily goal

Why can't I just go back and disable any daily goal? Why does it get mandatory after you set it once? I don't want a daily goal anymore, I like that bar showing me how long it takes to get me to the next level. Why Duolingo doesn't care a hang about the users complaints? After I set a daily goal, I feel discouraged to log into Duolingo.

Upvoted. I don't want a daily goal either - and so far managed to escape with not setting one up.

I agree. The daily goal is horrible and is very discouraging. I want my progress bar back!

This is currently not possible. I lamented over this several months ago and we didn't find any solution then. Unless you create a new account, the progress xp bar is not coming back. I even stopped playing for a month, but then... you have to play, don't you?... so I got used to that stupid graphics of the daily goal. Blessed be those who set it up the first day they started playing for they don't know any better...

I deleted my profile, as jrikhal suggested. It works, but redoing the tree is a pain. (It's going to take all day to re-finish my Esperanto, and it'll take me a month or two to get back to where I was in Hebrew and Welsh.)

I feel the same.

The easiest thing to do (given that it seems very unlikely Duolingo will revert it) is to:

  1. deactivate your current account (after having changed your email address if you want to use the same for the new account)
  2. create a new account
  3. take a placement test and/or shortcut to reach quickly on the ne account your level 7 (still doable in a reasonable amount of time).

And, of course, don't setup a daily goal with this new account.

I don't know how it works, but I suppose it's not the same. I have concerns about how my tree will look like if I do it. Additionally, I would miss all notifications about my activities in the old account.

but I suppose it's not the same.

Not the same as what?
It'd be a new independent account, working exactly the same as any account, for exampel as your current one.

I have concerns about how my tree will look like if I do it.

Once you'll have reach the same skills as in your current account (which should go quickly since you already know the lessons now), it'll look the same.

I would miss all notifications about my activities in the old account.

But it you switch for a new account (in order to not have daily goal) then you'll not use this one thus no activities to miss..

But if you don't want to change of account (for any reason, your right), then you'll have to live with the fact you have setup (once) a daily goal and can't revert it.

That s incorrect! The easiest thing is to set your daily XP target on the web interface to 1 XP.

There has always been a requirement to obtain 1XP even before the coach function was introduced.

This will not bring back the graph the OP want to have back

I like that bar showing me how long it takes to get me to the next level

Namely, they want to have back (well, if I get it right):
Imgur
instead of the graph
Imgur
which replaces the previous one as soon as you setup a daily goal (=coach goal) for the first time.

On the other hand, not setting up any daily goal will avoid to trigger (the existence, for your account, of) the Coach and thus to trigger all the graphs associated to it.

If the main reason of the OP's complaint isn't to have back "that bar showing me how long it takes to get me to the next level" (they can see the info elsewhere but may want to still see it where it was), my bad and, in this case, yes my answer is incorrect but otherwise I don't think my answer to be incorrect. ;)

Remark/Detail: If you don't setup anything, gaining 1XP will get your streak filled for the day (since you worked) but there will be no XP daily goal per se: you didn't setup it, so there is none. It's just "having work" or not (which, de facto makes a 1XP daily goal but there is none defined and thus none of the graphs/options associated to the fact to have defined one).

Just by seeing this I am getting nostalgic. I really don't understand why duolingo doesn't just provide a way of customizing the graphics. From software development perspective, that is the correct way of doing cosmetic changes, let the players keep their old environment while providing new stuff at the same time. Bad product management from their side.

I tried going down to 1 xp but it won't work on the app. Now I want to get rid of the daily goal. I really can't fit it in anymore, every day anyway.
