-DIK: "Tarihlerin yazmadığı bir kaçakçılık"

Hi, guys,

I'm trying to wrap my head around this sentence. It's a chapter title of a book I'm reading.

I think the most probable translation is a noun ("kaçakçılık") with an adjectival ("tarihlerin yazmadığı"):

"The [smuggling]/[evasion]/[contraband] that the [histroies]/[dates] [didn't write]/[weren't writing]/[don't wirte]/[aren't writing] (about)."

it is something like "A smuggling that the history [books] didn't write about".

Yes, the history cannot write, but we often use the word tarih like that. Of course what is meant is that it is not written in the history books/it is not mentioned in the stories about the history.

Thanks a lot, this makes a lot of sense!

Why is "about" ("hakkında") left out?

Is it because it can't be inserted in a -DIK structure? Like "from" ("-DAn") is missing in "Benim nefret ettiğim kadın o.".

In a main clause can I leave "hakkında" out: "Tarihler kaçakçılık yazıyor.",

or do I have to say "Tarihler kaçakçılık hakkında yazıyor.".

yes I think it is because of -DIK, you cannot say "Tarihler kaçakçılık yazıyor.". You could say ""Tarihler kaçakçılığı yazıyor.", though.

You can say "Tarihlerin hakkında yazmadığı bir kaçakçılık", but "Tarihlerin yazmadığı bir kaçakçılık" sounds better

Oh, I completely forgot to add accusative to "kaçakçılık".

Thanks again for the detailed answers!
