Artículos (lo, la, il, l´)

Alguien me pudiera explicar la lógica de cuándo y cómo usar los artículos determinativos?

I can gladly give you a full answer hoping that you can read and understand english (unfortunately i forgot most of the spanish stuff xD).

Let's start with the easiest to remember: the feminine articles LA.

As in spanish, when a nouns ends with letter A is femine. The same happens in italian so

An House - UnA casA

The same happens with its other article so:

The house - LA casA

The second one, L' is pretty simple, you must use it when a nouns starts with a vowel, for example:

The water - L' acqua

The ear - L'orecchio

The watch - L'orologio

The next one, il, is used for masculine nouns that ends in -O or also in -E.

The book - Il librO

The snake - Il serpentE

The chicken - Il pollO

For your fortune the nouns that ends in -E are few (i guess that i can count them on the fingers of my hand) and i can give you a little tip: if you find some nouns that ends in -ione, they are feminine.

The station - La stazione

The breakfast - La colazione

The action - L'azione (remember that you have to put "L' " when it starts with a vowel...right?)

The section - La sezione

The last one, lo, is used only for masculine words that start in s,ps,x and gn. Fortunately even these ones are few and i think the best way to recognize them is to memorize them. Here are the most common i have in mind now:

The mirror - Lo specchio

The stupid - Lo stupido

The study- Lo studio (the same word can mean the study->i study for tomorrow, and also the place).

The stadium - Lo stadio

The cliff - Lo scoglio

The scotch (tape) - Lo scotch

The burst - Lo scoppio

The shot - Lo sparo

The scare - Lo spavento

The xylohphone - Lo xilofono

The psychopathic - Lo psicopatico

The psychologist - Lo psicologo

The gnome - Lo gnomo

(usually the words that starts in gn,x and ps are rare ).

If you want other infos about their plurals (or other kind of questions) just ask ;).

Don't mention it, if you have other doubts just ask....i know that articles can be a pain in the ass, but with some practice it will become easier :D.

If you need problems with their plural, i answered here to another user that has problems with articles.I put the indeterminate articles, singular and plural of determinate articles:
