Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

Personalise more

Duolingo is amazing, but everyone is taught the exact same thing. Would it be possible to make the course more personalised for people? Or maybe get expert advise on your language a few times a year? Maybe some more trophies or mini games to motivate people more?

You can get what you want from several sources, but you'll pay for it. Duo is free, with millions of users, and I doubt they'll freely provide personalization and 'expert advise' a few times a year. ;) Walk into the nearest university and ask for free, individualized language instruction, and point out that you'd like games and trophies to motivate you. ;)

One suggest I've read from other users is for Duolingo to add special lessons like "Vacation", and "Going to eat at a Restaurant", that can be purchased in the lingot store. I like this idea because this is one way people can personalize their language learning experience. (Though, if DL does put them in the store, I hope the number of lingots is not set prohibitively high, so if people don't have the lingots, others can give them the lingots to purchase them.)

Some kind of motivation on the part of DL would be good:) But if you need motivation I have made a challenge for the next week ;) Take a part if you have time and if you feel like it.

No link? Such modesty, Noe010101. It's a great challenge and you can find it here: http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1579339

As Noe010101 has demonstrated, a number of long-time users have taken to creating minigames, usually rewarded with lingots. I also have one here: http://www.duolingo.com/comment/1541088 . Usagiboy7 has one, though I don't think they're offering lingots for it: www.duolingo.com/comment/1578116 . I always get excited when I see one and like to try it out. They help me to think about language in new ways.

I forgot and posted that challenge too late at night, so, not many people have seen it. Thanks for bringing it up! I thought of lingots for the challenge, but, I'm not good with numbers and didn't know how lingots would work with that challenge. Suggestions and sponsors welcome!
