New Spanish Tree update

Hi all,

Does anyone knows when the new update of Spanish Tree for English speakers will be available? By new update I mean new lessons, new skills, something like the latest update for German tree. I am asking, because I think the Spanish one is too small if you compare it with the German tree.

Thanks for answers ;-)

No one knows for sure that there will be a new Spanish tree, except perhaps the team who would be working on it. Perhaps it will come one day, who knows?

The Spanish/English course pair is a bit of a special case, because Duo staff controls all tree updates in these courses. (In other courses, the Incubator teams create the new versions.) The result is that we have limited information about planned expansions. I do know that, as Lento_Rodriguez has noticed, there are two "Spanish for English" tree versions currently in use. One is the original tree, and one is a new one that's being tested. If the new one tests well, I imagine that it will ultimately be rolled out to everyone.

The new tree isn't visible to me, but I don't expect a huge expansion. I think some of the skills have been reorganized, and I know that there are some vocabulary words that aren't in the original tree. I'm hoping that eventually there'll be a larger expansion, but I suspect that the current update will have to be released and stabilized before that can happen.

You can find out by checking how many food skills you have. If you only have one "Food" lesson, you have the old tree. If you have "Food 2" (it includes words like "zanahorias" and "hongos"), you have the new tree.

I did the reverse tree (English for Spanish speakers), and there, the Comida 2 skill includes zanahorias and hongos. So the new Spanish tree will have a structure similar to the current reverse tree?

This, I can't say with certainty. I do know that that skill exists in the current reverse tree, but having only seen small pieces of the new Spanish tree, I don't know whether it has the same structure as the reverse tree, or if it's just similiar in spots.

The tree I have is Basics 1, Phrases, Basics 2, Food, Animals, Plurals, and then the bonus 3-slots with Idioms and Flirting, and under that, Possession and then the first Checkpoint is reached. Sounds like I have the OLD Spanish tree, though I've only been doing Duolingo since early April. (On my <IsaacLaws> account.

I don't know much about it but I do know I used to have an old account here that that had 64 skills for the Spanish tree and the account I have now only has 61. It had 62 when I first got it about three months ago.

There are a few new skills on it like "food 2," who knows if they are just testing things and when they get done we'll have a huge tree or if the tree I have now is a new one they are testing or what's going on.

I haven't heard anything about the basic nature of the tree changing but I have heard that some people are receiving some of their lessons in a male voice. I am currently working both English-->Spanish and Spanish-->English and I have not yet heard a male voice.

I noticed the last couple of days that some of my sentences are being read in a male voice. He seems to speak quite a bit faster and less disjointedly than the female voice imo. He reads some of the full sentences, but if I then hover over an individual word, that word is then read out by the female voice, which is incredibly disorientating.

I haven't encountered the male voice, yet, but I've seen a few similar comments in the forums, and I gather that there's an A/B test in progress with a new TTS. I'm not sure whether they're just testing the old TTS against a new one, or if they're considering using both male and female voices in the course, as the French tree does.

I can absolutely imagine that it's disorienting to hear one voice on the initial pass, and a new voice when you hover. (It'd be kind of like asking somebody, "what did you say?" and being answered in a whole new voice!) That's something that doesn't seem to happen in the French course (at least, not that I've experienced), and I suspect that it's happening here because the new TTS is in the test phase, and hasn't been integrated completely into the course.
