When Will Danish Show your Fluency Percentage and Have the Microphone.

Why isn't Danish like French and other languages such as Italian and German. They all have the fluency percentage and the microphone and Danish has been out for a while?

I get the microphone exercises on Google Chrome (however, the last thing I have heard about them, they're only available on Google Chrome for some languages, including Danish)

As for fluency percentage, I'm not really sure how good of a feature that is anyway, but I've not heard that there's any rush to bring it over to the languages that weren't a part of the original ones.

Totally agree. I like to take it slow and go over the lessons a few times so they really stick, which means I have 18% fluency even though I have only completed a few lessons. I'm sure I'm nowhere near that fluent (the speaking exercises keep tactfully saying, lets try that again later XD), but it does help you stay motivated to keep going.

When Will Danish Show your Fluency Percentage

No communication from Duo about if and when this feature will be added to all the couses not having it (=the majority of the courses). To see which courses have it and why there is a difference between courses, see here.

Oh, there are so many reasons that Danish is not like Italian or German.... :-) Last I checked, Danish Duolingo did have a microphone . However, quality of the voice recognition was very bad, more a toy or a beta test than a real tool. Also, it was bad in the direction of failing to recognize perfectly good pronunciation even from native Danes. So, I have a hunch that their efforts were not ready for prime time.

Yeah, I've definitely gotten away with shouting some of the dumbest things into the mic, like "Børk børk kamelåså".

That's good to know. I was getting a bit disheartened that it only recognised a few of the words I was saying :D

Save that business about being disheartened until you try your Danish on native Danes and they look at you blankly. I studied Danish on my one quite a while before a summer when my wife and I studied it with a teacher in Denmark. Our teacher commented that I had invented a dialect that understandable only to myself. This had worked fine as long as I was only talking to myself while doing Duolingo on my morning walk in Minnesota. In Copenhagen, not so much. Men, det kommer!

Hahahahaha, that's brilliant! Think I might just stick to the listening and reading/writing exercises then, don't want to pick up any bad habits. Tak for det.

Sounds like a plan. Take it up again when it makes sense for you. I rather move around what I am working on. I have a tutor with whom I meet each week. She nominates for me what I should work on next. I asked her the other day whether the fact that she was not pushing me to work on pronunciation meant that I was getting good at it. She wrinkled up her nose and said "Well, I don't know that I would say that. It is just that it is not at the moment your worst problem!"
