Duolingo Summer Study Group XP Competition No. 1
Welcome to the first XP competition of the Duolingo Summer Study Group! This competition starts on June 1st and ends on June 29th. The goal is to get as much XP as possible with your team. Each week, please report to your team captain the amount of XP you get. (Team captains: please report the amount of XP your team earned, including yourself, to the study group account)
Here are the prizes:
1st place: 100 lingots each
2nd place: 50 lingots each
3rd place: 10 lingots each
If you are unable to do the competition for any reason, please post on my stream.
Notice: The French and the Spanish team has an overflow, so it is even. The two teams are split.
Three little questions: 1) How are we tallying our points? We won't be able to use the leaderboard, since it turns over on Sundays and not Tuesdays. We just need to see how many points we had before we read this discussion and keep a personal record from there? 2) We only count points from our given language, right? 3) Are points from reverse trees and laddered trees countable?
Yes, these are good questions! I think that I'll just note down my daily scores from today until next monday.
You may also want to differentiate between tree points and Immersion points, and also which course the points are from to avoid confounding your points.
Yes, it is complicated. But until we have further clarification, it's probably the best way to avoid making mistakes in claimed points.
So we count up our daily scores from Tuesday morning to the following Monday (midnight in your time zone) to be totalled & reported to each Leader on the Tuesday?
Might be better to run it from today, Wednesday morning, to next Tuesday midnight. Or...if the leaderboard runs to Sunday night before resetting, making this first week from today to Sunday night then using the Leaderboard as the "new" week as that could be easier.
Almost! Count up your daily scores from Wednesday until the following Tuesday. :)
That's seems like a hassle, Isabelle. Some of us have a lot going on. You know, it would be much easier to use the leaderboard once a week, before it resets. Just a suggestion, of course. Being honest. No offense.
Also, can we count reverse tree, laddered tree, or Immersion points, or is it just points from the original tree?
I was wondering one of the same things. I love Italian, but I had to join French because no one else wanted to do Italian. Does my XP from Italian still count?
It starts on a Tuesday and we need to report to our team captains every week.
i'm late for this competition.....i wanna be on french but what he said...does that mean i can't join the french team?
Question??? How do the small groups of 3 or 4 compete against the larger ones? Just wondering... lol Would appear that the Spanish or French team have won before we even get started. ha ha
I'd recommend averaging the total XP gained by any group.
I worry about Immersion too, since some people will not have it available at all and others will be on high tiers and be able to earn a lot of XP that way.
I imagine that it will be averaged out, so that every team will have a fair chance.
can i be in the french team with em ma bff? (out of like,.....counts her bffs) i'm so excited to be on with her if i can :)
There's no fee for the competition, but the study group fee is 5 lingots.
