Who of you think that a lot of the sentences don't make sense. We should tell Duolingo that, maybe they will change it if we all ask. What do y'all think?
The sentences are generated to have the most variety, so they are bound to be weird. Just wait 'til you see the ones about naked waitresses in the French lessons...
There has just been some in my Spanish lessons that are weird, like the cat sleeps on top of the monkey.
It does seem like there are some the culture stereotypes . Here are screenshots from Italian mob talk:
Spanish lessons had some weird sentences like: Is he legal? We must obtain the documents. And stuff indicating that one may be illegal, or undocumented.
I wonder what some of the languages will have in them :-) Isn't duo 18+ anyways? :-)
No, there are no age restrictions on Duolingo. Anyway, why else would you learn a language if you weren't going to join the mob? Lotsa money in the job, you know... if you don't get caught.
Anyway, I think that weird sentences are good. I think it forces one to think about constructing it.
I would say that It should be for people that already did Rosetta Stone. It really isn't for beginners.
Why? If you're using Duolingo, you don't need Rosetta Stone. You can just start from Basics 1 here.
it actually helps your learning, because you cannot guess the translation as easily!
Hello! You'll see a lot more sentences that "don't make sense' there is a reason for it. Just relax and go with the flow. It all helps you learn. Have you seen:"She changed the baby for a black dog." No, not yet. But seriously. Duo works and very well so don't sweat the little stuff. When I did that sentence (black dog) I kept hoping my translation was wrong. I checked all my vocab, tenses, prepositions .... it turned out to be correct. I was elated-yes the sentence was weird-but I had struggled to do it.
