For substantial, adult literature with a relatively easy style, try
"La Dama del Alba", a play by Alejandro Casona
the plays of Federico García Lorca, e.g., "Bodas de sangre" or "Yerma"
Miguel de Unamuno's "Abel Sánchez", a modern treatment of the Cain and Abel story
anything by Azorín (José Augusto Trinidad Martínez Ruiz), e.g., "Las Confesiones de un pequeño filósofo"
Gabriel García Márquez's "Relato de un náufrago" (a real-life "Life of Pi") or "El coronel no tiene quien le escriba"
A "Goosebumps" book by R.L. Stine is good. The vocabulary is easier than Harry Potter.
La Mujer Sin Lagrimas by Mayra A. Diaz. I got mine on the Amazon Kindle for under a dollar. It's an adult book about a woman who can't cry and the doctor who is trying to find out why. The book has a paragraph in Spanish, followed by the translation in English.
Thanks!! Thats a good idea... I may try it but i may be tempted to cheat and only read the English. haha.
rspreng is right: try something translated from English that is very easy, such as The Wizard of Oz, by Baum, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, by Lewis, a children's book by Roald Dahl, or a "Goosebumps" book. Read two or three, preferably translated by the same translator, and you should be ready to read something like Harry Potter y la piedra filosofal, which is a little bit more difficult, or something originally written in Spanish (such as La ciudad de las bestias, by Isabel Allende, which is the first such book I read; it is for "young adults" and is pretty good once you get to chapter 3 or so).
Get the Spanish version of the alchemist it is very pleasant to read
