Do you actually learn the Russian alphabet?

Hi! I just started learning Russian on here, and I'm not very far, but I was wondering if I will actually learn the alphabet through duolingo or if it's just going to continue with the English alphabet. Thanks!

You have to learn the alphabet beforehand, and then use the Russian alphabet by clicking on the button in the upper-left corner of every lesson.

Do not try to learn Russian without learning the alphabet, it's really not a good idea. And beside, Cyrillic is not a difficult alphabet to learn. It takes only a few hours (and then, it's true, a lot of time to be able to read it fast).

Duolingo is unfortunately quite bad at teaching alphabets but there are plenty of other resources on the Internet for that.

Whichever you want! If you choose to, Memrise is a great resource. Once you learn the alphabet (33 letters in all) you can read anything! No rules to restrain you! Have fun learning Russian!

I recommend looking at this post for links to a couple explanations of the alphabet plus instructions for installing a Cyrillic keyboard: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/11449014

If you really want to learn Russian, learn the alphabet. You can finish Duolingo without it, but you won't be able to read books, look up Russian words in the dictionary, etc. without learning the alphabet, and even if your primary focus is speaking, you'll need these other skills in order to increase your vocabulary in order to be able to use the language fluently.

Look for "Depending on how the situation unfolds . . . " in this post, if you just want Cyrillic letters on your display in the lessons, rather than a transliteration. The button is on the top left and looks like

(it will say "Aa" when the display is the Latin-character transliteration). If that's not your question, the rest of the post will probably help you.
