"Need to drink" is correct. But " need drinking" is wrong?

The structure "need +V-ing" is equivalent to the passive form "need to be + past participle".

E.g:
This car needs cleaning = This car needs to be cleaned - Chiếc xe hơi này cần được lau chùi.
