Can't create profile because my email address is taken (by me of course)

I can log into my account on Safari but I cannot create a profile in the iPad app I just downloaded. The app advises me that my email address is already taken. An answer to a similar message advised closing the app and reopening it but that didn't work. How can I set up a profile in the app? Thanks.

When first using the app, you can choose between creating an account/profile and logging into an existing one. As you already have one, you should just use the latter option.

I have the same problem! I can't SAVE my work or get past level one due to me email address being taken by ME - It's very frustrating. I cannot move on. Help me please. did write about 5 months ago (from my ipad) but have had no reply from anyone. I would really appreciate how to get round this. Many thanks. Elizabeth.

1, Simply open the app 2 Click on clubs (the next to last icon) at the bottom of the opened window. 3. At the top left side of the page click on PROFILE 4. You'll see "Create a Profile" and also "Sign In" 5. Simply select "Sign In" and your worries are over.

I hope this helped. Abrazos.

Not so simple. Was able to cobble together a solution from these posts however. Deleted app, reinstalled, then followed Vicmor's instructions. There was no signin or logout field on the Clubs page until I deleted and reinstalled. The frustration is that now I am where I was ages ago when I was using the .com and not where I was yesterday using the app. The good news, more practice working my way back. Thank you everyone for the posts.

Thanks, PJMCD. I had to delete the app and reinstall it to make the "log into your account" prompt appear, but it worked.

I know this thread is a little old, but this method isn't working for me. Same issue: Had an account but never really got into it. Trying to use the account now but the iOS app only asks me to "Create" an account. I deleted the app, rebooted the phone and still when I re-install, the app remembers that I had already been using it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the App, go to 'clubs', and in the top left hand corner is 'profile', and in there you can log out. Then you can log in with your original login.

You have to click on "I already have an account" instead of "Get started"

Solution:

  • stop trying to log in via "Get started"
  • go back to Duolingo's home page
  • log in your old account:

Android App and web version (www.duolingo.com)

From the home page
- click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the screen
- click on "I already have an account" instead of "Get started"
- then you see the "Sign in" screen
- log in with the same username and password as you used in your old account.

iOS App

In the IOS App it is more complicated.
From the home page:

  • go to the clubs tab
  • touch "profile"
  • then touch "settings"
  • log in with the same username and password as you used in your old account.

not sure what happened during these two months but guessed that, somehow I needed to sign in somewhere....Could not find your "Clubs" instead after launching the pgr from the icon I found at the bottom (scrolling right down) some icons. clicking on the house (shop) gives you two fields one to create in blue, the other in yellow to sign in Pero muchas Gracias por esto :)

My name is Nair. I love French duolingo. Now I can't hear anything on your lessons. What gives. Send me something like do you allow duolingo to your contacts, and I will say yes, it may work. Oriolinair@gmail.com
