It is REALLY DIFFICULT at first (or it was for me).

What helped me the most: say all the sentences along with the Duolingo voice. You will be surprised at how wrong you are saying things. It's easy to hear the difference when you say the sentences at the same time. And hearing that difference helps your ear to become better at hearing important French sounds. When that happens (and it takes time), the accent will be a lot easier to hear and understand.

Words like cours and coeurs used to sound the same to me. They don't any more.

I had the same problem. I learned Spanish first and then I did the "French for Spanish speakers" course.

Just practice, practice, practice. Saying the sentences along with the computer helps with this, also.

It's difficult because Spanish is so phonetic, and French is not at all until you get used to it. I'm still getting used to it, by the way!

Listening to french is always more difficult then reading and writing. The best thing I can tell you is to keep trying, but one thing I did --as embarrassing as it was-- was saying the sentence along with the voice of the lady or man on Duolingo. Of course, I'm still learning myself and am not good either yet, but I'm getting there. :)
