?באה and בא What is the difference between
They are both listed as comes/coming, but I don't see any rule that describes when to use one and not the other.
בא - [ba], באה - [baa]
hu ba - he comes / he is coming
hi baa - she comes / she is coming
ani ba - I (male) come / I am (male) coming
ani baa - I (female) come / I am (female) coming
There are a lot of verbs like this. For example,
1) Ani mekaveh - I (male) hope
2) Ani mekavah - I (female) hope
And many others :)
Everything they said, but it is also for past tense:
בא - He came
She came - באה
The difference in pronunciation between past and present for these words is that the stress in on the other syllable. Most native speakers pronounce both with the same stress and you need to understand the context.
This is true for third person only in past. 1st and 2nd persons in the past tense are totally different.
