Is it just me or is Timed Practice messed up???
I suggest you relocate this discussion in the “Troubleshooting" forum? Which is the place meant for such discussion. Thx!
To relocate it (\/!\ please, don’t create a new one \/!\), edit your original post then select said forum in the drop-down menu on top-left of the edition area.
Have a look to this short guide to help you knowing where to post your (future) discussions on Duolingo’s forums.
the NEXT question is not credited even if you answer it correctly!
Is it the next question that is marked as wrong?
Or is it that in the summary at the end, the multiple-choice question is marked wrong? In which case it's an old known little bug that appeared around 9 months ago.
I suggest you fill a "Bug Report" form (with as much details as you can, cf. text in this form), those forms being read by staff. While they will not answer to it (well, up to some exceptions probably ;) ), because they can't answer to each one, they nevertheless use them (among other criterias) to prioritize their list of bugs to be fixed according to the number of Bug Report forms received for each bug.
Hi jrikhal and everyone else!
I've moved the thread to 'troubleshooting' as recommended.
Now to clarify the situation: (1) I am running a Timed Practice. This, as you probably know is made up of 20 questions, which means that you should be able to accumulate up to 20 xp. (2) I multiple choice question comes up. This multiple choice question has two correct answers (example: She comes from the restaurant: Viene dal ristorante; Lei viene dal ristorante). (3) Let's assume that this is the 5th question in the practice. I have answered the 4 previous questions correctly, so I already have 4xp. I answer the multiple choice question correctly and I get my 5th xp, as expected. (4) The next question after the multiple choice question (i.e. the 6th question in our example) comes up. I answer that one correctly too. Even though Duo acknowledges the correct answer, it does NOT increment the xp counter. It stays at 5, whereas is should be incremented to 6. (5) This occurs for all multiple choice questions with multiple correct replies. What I mean is that if I have two such questions in my practice and I answer all of them correctly, my total score will be 18. (6) If I remember correctly, if you go to the Lesson summary after the practice is over, these multiple choice questions are actually marked as WRONG. (7) I don't know how the practice customisation algorithm works, but it seems that this is also affected, because these questions are marked wrong. The phrases related to these questions tend to appear in my practices very frequently. (8) Also, please note that on occasion I am credited with 21 xp, although I couldn't discern a pattern for why this is happening, so I can't report much. It is quite possible that this 21xp problem is related to the multiple-choice problem. Without knowing the actual code, I would say that some counter somewhere is not handled properly. (9) I can confirm that this is not browser-specific. I've tried Internet Explorer 11, Edge and Firefox 47 and I can replicate the behaviour on both. My main browser is IE/Edge. I only use Firefox for development. I hope that the above clarifies the situation. If you need more info Do let me know.
So it's the same bug as the one in the 9 months old discussion I linked.
So nothing more to do than fill a bug report form (cf. my previous comment too).
Hard to be sure (cf. "the NEXT question is not credited even if you answer it correctly!"). ;)
He said that because, if you look watch the xp coin thing, it will count the multiple choice question, but then, if you get the next question right, the coin thing doesn't change.
thanks for your response! In that case I wonder if it is browser related. Can you please tell me which browser you are using?
I see that you are a real polyglot. If you ever decide to learn Greek and need a hand, ping me! I'd be happy to help out!
LOL! Giusto! L'alfabeto greco è complicato, ma non troppo! E la grammatica greca non è diversa della grammatica italiana (o francese). Grazie per il suggerimento, io provarlo! Stammi bene!
I am using chrome, but I am not studying Italian here anymore... I am going there to see if Italian is ok ...
The scoring engine is most probably the same for all language, so I don't think it matters. I will try Chrome and see if it solves my problem. Obrigado! :)
Hehe! Oh yes, you are right! Although I couldn't figure out a pattern to explain it! So I am not crazy! :)))))
:) Duo is crazy :) , but that's ok , I got 21 xp :D :D :D :D :D , first time in more than two years :)
I know! It's very strange! I'm trying out Firefox right now, but it seems that the problem is generic. Anyway, many thanks for your help! You've been fantastic! Mille grazie!
Just to let everyone following this discussion know: I've filed a bug report. If the problem is resolved, I guess we'll all know! Thanks for your help!
