That's true, but unlike the US, the president in Israel doesn't hold any actual powers. There has been however a female prime minister, which is the equivalent of the US president in Israel.
Actually no, the US president has far less power than people seem to think. And the Israeli president has the power to pardon prisoners, for one, and (in theory) veto laws (though that’s never been put to the test).
Even so, the president is not the leader of the state and is just an official position. Pardons are rarely given and whoever is tasked to assemble the government by the president usually gets the majority.
Other than these two "important" duties, he rarely does anything except PR for Israel. The US president IS the head of the united states..
