Welcome to Beta...

I won't bore y'all with a long speech, but just say: Welcome to our course, we hope you enjoy it:)

And thanks to all contributors past and present, to David and everyone else at Duolingo HQ for all their hard work, and to you, the Duolingo community, for all your love and support. We honestly couldn't have done it without you:) And now we need your help more than ever to help us find our mistakes (there will be plenty), sharpen and improve the course to the best of our ability. Be methodical and thorough, but also be kind, please:)

To graduation!

Improvements

The course is coming along well. The lessons for the first stage of the course have been decided. Even though the speed is a bit slow, it's OK for this stage, I feel. The aim of the first stage is to cover as many basic words as possible. English versions of the seven Tamil cases will be covered from beyond the first checkpoint.

Please leave your comments here.

The dotted strong consonant has not been used in this update, except for agglutinated words. This rule is still being worked on.

Getting there - one step at a time!

As the month of June nears its end, I have got the hang of most of the stuff I will have to take care of. Bengali being such a well adoptive language, it is often a bit tempting to put in English romanizations of a word instead of using the translated form. It is only a matter of time and patience in translating now! Those of you who are interested in contributing/moderating this course, please feel free to apply. I would request that you write as much as possible to highlight your enthusiasm and interest. Also try to write the Bengali in the most correct form possible and avoid the Bengali writing in English letters (romanized form). All the best to future contributors and all my thanks to Duolingo for hosting this course!

Do you have what it takes to contribute?

Dear readers,

Lately, we have seen several folks who have expressed interest in contributing to our course. From my experience, I can tell that this is NOT an easy task. It needs tremendous dedication, great command on both Hindi and English, beyond mere interest.

I would like to repeat my request - please demonstrate your enthusiasm by helping learners with their questions on the "English for Hindi" forum. There are several questions that can be answered by any Duolingoer without the need to have access to the incubator. I will promise that your effort will not go unnoticed!

Also, we have inched along to 28% completion.

Good luck!

Audio on its way

Hello everyone,

so we were told this week that the fixes for the recordings we requested have been passed on to the recording company — once those are in, the recordings will be matched to the sentences in a course tree. You'll hear more when that's done!

Thanks for your patience and have a good week!

Hebrew is now available in beta! Hungarian might follow soon...

Yiddish moved!! O.O

And the Hebrew beta is great. I'm just taking it as slowly as possible because vowels are hard man. But I'm enjoying it nonetheless.

Good to see some progress from Hindi, but it looks like Indonesian has taken the lead (at least in my mind there's a friendly competition going on).

Happy travels, Jiten, and thanks for what you do to get these updates to us!

June 26, 2016

Thanks, James! I read this as a coax for a nice race to beta! :)

Guarani is putting my patience to the ultimate test!

I'm at the first checkpoint in Hebrew, with zero prior knowledge. Thanks to the team! So far the tree is amazing. :-)

Wishing you safe travels, Jiten!

June 26, 2016

Wow, level 6 already! @.@ Good job!

Hungarian just posted an update 20 minutes ago:

June 26, 2016

Thanks, fr224! I have included their update in today's edition of WIU.

June 27, 2016

Happy travels! And thanks for the update, as usual!

June 26, 2016

Thanks, Annika!

June 26, 2016

Wow, good progress to so many teams. I just have to say something that I know everyone is thinking: YIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDIIIIIIIISSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

June 26, 2016

Go Indonesian!

June 26, 2016

Please greek!!

June 26, 2016

YAY for Hebrew!!!!! And all those courses nearly in beta! I don't know what I'm going to do with all those courses.... It's so hard to resist starting one when it comes out, and then I can't stop.... :-D

June 26, 2016

English for Tamil speakers also requires localization (translation of Duolingo website to Tamil), so I'd put the progress at more like 4-5%, actually.

June 27, 2016

Does anyone have any news/updates regarding the status of Arabic for English Speakers? I'm looking forward to seeing it in the incubator one of these days.

June 27, 2016

Yes, I'm also waiting for it quite desperately and checking the incubator every day... Let's hope it gets there soon!

June 27, 2016

Thank you for your great work on these updates, as usual. Enjoy your travel!

June 26, 2016

GO YIDDISH!

June 28, 2016

It's even gone up one percent since then!!!

June 29, 2016

Klingon seems to have added a new contributor to there ranks, let's hope that he can help get the course to beta before 2019 rolls around.

I was as (pleasantly) surprised as anyone to see activity from team Yiddish, proof enough that anything's possible.

And I see that Hungarian is that little bit closer to getting there final pieces of audio, and then --Yay I'm learning Hungarian.

June 29, 2016

The Hungarian course is two and a half hours into beta, and I'm already at level 2, I said that I'd pounce, didn't I?

Edit: One month to phase three sounds ambitious doesn't it, (that's the target they've set).
