Questions with the tips section on vowels
When it's teaching the vowels. It says the kamatz and patach are pronounced like the 'a' in bang. Is this right ? I've always practiced it like the 'a' in father.
And then it says the holam is pronounced like bog? Which sounds like the ah sound in father too ?
Can someone clear this up for me ?
This is the limitation of trying to explain Hebrew sounds in English letters. Whether it works or not depends on too many variables, including accent. For example, in my accent, the o in bog doesn't sound remotely like the ah in father, and bang and father have a very similar a sound.
Best listen to recordings etc.
Haha, that's actually a great question.
I think that without proper niqqud it would be very hard, and usually based on similarities to other word.
I am not sure if they teach it in the course (still haven't done all of it) but in Hebrew we have "Mishkalim" which is similar to "Binyanim", only for nouns. So knowing these helps you to estimate how a word would sound.
I never had to google a word before, but that might be a good idea for learners :)
