I had the preconceived notion that "xem" was "watch" like watching TV or watching a turtle sleep. Why is this word used here and not "thấy" ?

"Bạn thấy đôi giày của tôi" was declared wrong. Doesn't "thấy" mean "see"? What's the mistake?
