The 's' does not mean it is plural, it is just how the verb is conjugated. In the resent simple tense, the erb almost always ends in 's' for the 3rd person singular, he, she, it, the cat etc.
I eat, we eat, the cat eats
I drink, they drink, you drink, the cat drinks
They go, we go, she goes, the cat goes
I work, we work, he works, the cat sleeps
