"John" is the English version of the Hungarian "János".

Vislat..isnt that traduced correctly- "see you later?" latom- i see?

fantastic intuition, indeed that's where the word comes from.

'viszlát' is the short version for 'viszontlátásra' which is something like '(looking forward) to seeing you again'

Viszlat is colloquial. Thus "so long" should be an acceptable translation.

You're right. Did you report it?

My mnemotecnics in order to remember viszlát is to think of bis ('until' in German) + late, like in see you later, hasta luego, à plus tard, bis später, etc.

A János beceneve: jancsi. (A szlengben mást jelent)
