I couldn't find it in sentence discussions, so I decided to ask here. Why in this sentence is the word "nincs" used? Shouldn't it be "nem van"?

Technically we never say nem van. But if you want to sound funny you can say that, like in this song:

2xRefrén: M'ért nincs nyáron hó, az volna a jó, ha volna hó, de nem van!

By the way, nincs is synonymous with "nincsen," but I think nincs is a lot more common. I'm not a native speaker, so I read about it in a book but since then have never actually seen "nincsen," always "nincs."

I wanted to start with that because I'm actually here to add that "nem vannak" becomes "nincsenek."

  • A nő nincs(en) otthon

  • A nők nincsenek otthon
