I've seen both rövid and alacsony translate to short. Is rövid used when referring to lengths and alacsony used when referring to heights?

I believe "Ez egy hosszú utca" would be "This is a long street."

Hosszú-rövid - hosszúság, Magas-alacsony - magasság

Does Utca descend from Slavic "ulica"?

Wiktionary seems to think so.

My Hungarian dictionary of etymology has it as a Slav loadword. However, út is actually an ancient Uralic word (I'd always thought utca derived from út - but no)

A Király utca nem rövid.

"this street is short" not accepted. Why?

"this street is short" not accepted. Why?

Because the sentence was not Ez az utca rövid.

Instead, it says Ez egy rövid utca = "This is a short street".
