Bonus for learners - once you've practiced, have a go at the Karaoke version:

(No lie, memorizing Tankcsapda lyrics and practicing until I could nail them did so much for my fluency.)

I would like to add Szabó Balázs Bandája who uses several folkloric melodies and they also wrote music to many Hungarian poems and Quimby and Kispál és a Borz who are the most famous alternative bands in Hungary, their lyrics are true poetry :)

I always loved Neoton Familia for some Iron Curtain disco.

July 7, 2016

Yess, I needed more Iron Curtain disco in my life.

July 11, 2016

Beatrice, Nyolc óra munka: Slow enough to sing along, the pronunciation is clear, catchy enough music not to get boring quickly, and the lyrics are fun, too. A favourite of mine for years.

July 8, 2016

For everyone who like mysterious atmosphere and spiritual, wild, folky sound, I strongly recommend The Moon And The Nightspirit. I've been listening to them for a few years now and I still marvel at how incredibly talented they are.

Some of my favourite songs:

Örökké - (this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard)

Hétvilág -

Rögből élet -

Note that the lady sings and plays the violin this well at the same time.

When I was looking for non-English music ~2003 at, I discovered LB 27, a Hungarian Reggae band.

Ladánybene 27: Emelj fel Melancholic and beautiful - immediately caught me.

July 7, 2016

So many bands to listen to, thanks everyone! Here are two others if you like metal music:

Thy Catafalque - Köd Utánam (and sometimes they make also some very calm and beautiful instrumental songs: Piroshátú for instance)

Blind Myself - Maradék

And a song worth mentioning: Friderika Bayer - Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet from the Eurovision 1994

July 7, 2016

I think Kedvesem by ByeAlex is a really nice Hungarian song. They played it at Eurovision, and that's actually how I fell in love with the language.

July 20, 2016

Awesome! Thanks for sharing, I have been trying to look for some Hungarian musicians and songs!

And bëlga is also your one-stop shop for learning how to speak filthy Hungarian.

(NSFW if your coworkers understand Hungarian!)

October 17, 2016

i hate hip hop but i do like punnany massif for some reason.

October 2, 2018

Thy Catafalque is my favorite and one of my favorite bands in general. They blend black metal with electronic and industrial music, and it results in criminally catchy songs that stay in your head for days. All of their lyrics are in Hungarian.

November 28, 2016

Music is actually why I started to learn Hungarian. It's the most musical language I've heard, along with Portuguese. These are some of my recommendations and I welcome yours as well!

I'm surprised there haven't been many shares from 60s and 70s singers and bands, but the music was better then just as in the rest of the world.

Kovacs Kati:

Koncz Zsuzsa:

Zalatnay Sarolta:

Neoton Familia:

Katona Klari: Lokomotiv GT:
