I would like to add Szabó Balázs Bandája https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcPmokVbz3A who uses several folkloric melodies and they also wrote music to many Hungarian poems and Quimby https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XLJvx3T_1c and Kispál és a Borz https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGfSB8VtwUw who are the most famous alternative bands in Hungary, their lyrics are true poetry :)

Tankcsapda: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJceRTvD9Fo

Bonus for learners - once you've practiced, have a go at the Karaoke version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4my1e3kiwzo

(No lie, memorizing Tankcsapda lyrics and practicing until I could nail them did so much for my fluency.)

WOW thank you, whoever gave me 100 lingots!

Hey, do you know ByeAlex? His lyrics are wonderful. His most known songs:

      Kedvesem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOimfHq76xk

      Még mindig: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i8H1RqLoWwA

Songs that I like to play as a DJ:

Republic: Szállj el kismadár https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3eVCPqKn16E The first song I learnt to sing in Hungarian (17 years ago).

      16 tonna feketeszén https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZLslR335ps

      Repül a bálna https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROrprn6R7HE

      Neked könnyű lehet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RhKpXGK88s

Kék és narancssárga https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3c3fO_ZlVI (yes, another romantic one)

Thanks for the recs! This music is from 10+ years ago, but I'm listening to...

      Ibolya Oláh - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwcDo-ugENI

      Nox - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A2bTG0ZZGI

I always loved Neoton Familia for some Iron Curtain disco.

Yess, I needed more Iron Curtain disco in my life.

Beatrice, Nyolc óra munka: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xozJemXZcK8 Slow enough to sing along, the pronunciation is clear, catchy enough music not to get boring quickly, and the lyrics are fun, too. A favourite of mine for years.

For everyone who like mysterious atmosphere and spiritual, wild, folky sound, I strongly recommend The Moon And The Nightspirit. I've been listening to them for a few years now and I still marvel at how incredibly talented they are.

      Some of my favourite songs:

Örökké - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4hQZjlWuFU (this is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard)

      Hétvilág - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oscuNnsP3YQ

      Rögből élet - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGRhOf1eGJY

Note that the lady sings and plays the violin this well at the same time.

      Thank you for this!

people like these eh? ill hve a look when i get back home

When I was looking for non-English music ~2003 at mp3.com, I discovered LB 27, a Hungarian Reggae band.

Ladánybene 27: Emelj fel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIpT7nTuPAY Melancholic and beautiful - immediately caught me.

So many bands to listen to, thanks everyone! Here are two others if you like metal music:

Thy Catafalque - Köd Utánam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVVfuGuolD0 (and sometimes they make also some very calm and beautiful instrumental songs: Piroshátú https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5lfraleIoU for instance)

      Blind Myself - Maradék https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cv_xlc1GgkQ

And a song worth mentioning: Friderika Bayer - Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEYt1kd1K1g from the Eurovision 1994

I think Kedvesem by ByeAlex is a really nice Hungarian song. They played it at Eurovision, and that's actually how I fell in love with the language.

i loved intim torna illegal. saw them twice in concerts

Awesome! Thanks for sharing, I have been trying to look for some Hungarian musicians and songs!

Ah! Köszönöm! I like some of these songs, following so I can find them later!

Soerii és Poolek are still amazing too

There is a very useful app & extension for your browser: For Android, Iphone https://about.musixmatch.com/ For Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/musixmatch-lyrics-for-you/gfenjblodoldnbiddmggcbkcapiolbig

Musicmatch helps you to read the lyrics. It is available for youtube, spotify on your mobile devices or on your desktop pc.

      Wow, it's pretty good. :)

Thy Catafalque is my favorite and one of my favorite bands in general. They blend black metal with electronic and industrial music, and it results in criminally catchy songs that stay in your head for days. All of their lyrics are in Hungarian.

I prefer someone who can sing really good. :-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4DMwXeOOFM

Hm, i see no one listens to rap music. So i'll be first :)

      Good hungarian rap/hip-hop channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/hunhopchannel/videos

      "Mocskos Márka" videóklip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Thku0PnE_dY

not quite the first. bëlga and ludditák (already mentioned) are rap/hip-hop.

And bëlga is also your one-stop shop for learning how to speak filthy Hungarian.

(NSFW if your coworkers understand Hungarian!)

i hate hip hop but i do like punnany massif for some reason.

Music is actually why I started to learn Hungarian. It's the most musical language I've heard, along with Portuguese. These are some of my recommendations and I welcome yours as well!

I'm surprised there haven't been many shares from 60s and 70s singers and bands, but the music was better then just as in the rest of the world.

Hungary had a great song for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2018 (at least if you like Metal/Core). I love that song so much!

      AWS - Viszlát nyár: https://youtu.be/QQgurXKh42U

One of the most funky songs I know is "Embertelen dal" by Locomotiv GT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-yHgaCFJZc
