Movies in Swedish

Dear folks,

I am a beginner in Swedish. But I speak several languages and I know the worth of watching movies in their original languages. Do you have any Swedish movie suggestion? Let's write down on this list so all of us can benefit from these collective suggestions :)

Tack!

Safa

Let the Right One In is an absolute must for any film fan, even if they aren't learning Swedish. I can heartily recommend it.

As soon as I'm finished with the Duolingo course, I'm going to start watching every Ingmar Bergman movie ever made with Swedish and English subtitles, both at the same time. ;)

Thanks a lot! I'll keep in mind... Any other suggestion?

Unfortunately he's the only Swedish director that I'm familiar with, but you might find this discussion helpful, too: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/16488606

Oh, and this is what I use to combine subtitles of two languages: http://pas-bien.net/2srt2ass/ (this method is doing wonders for me with other languages!)

Oh, that's an amazing tip. I did not know that. Thanks a lot!

The only swedish movie i have in mind is the circle based by its book:

      I found also these links:

Recently I found this one. It's called "Mammas Pojkar" and is in swedish with swedish subtitles. It's a really cool movie, I had a lot of fun watching it ;) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZh-ryThERI

I take my note and I'll watch it a bit later, when I develop myself :)

The only Swedish movie that I have ever seen is 'Arn - Tempelriddaren' in English 'Arn – The Knight Templar' that is based on the book trilogy of Jan Guillou, with the same name.

The movie is very good, and if you like sword fights or medieval stories, I am sure you will like it. I recommend reading the books as well.

        https://www.duolingo.com/profile/safakaratas

Thank you Daniel. Maybe it's better to read the book first then.

Check out the Solsidan TV series, it is hilarious. You have the first two seasons online in the TV4 webpage for free with subtitles.

I would generally recommend starting with children's media. In Swedish, you have all of Astrid Lindgren's work at your disposal and it's an important part of Swedish culture anyway. Of course I'd recommend reading the books, but there are some really good movie adaptations. Swedish wikipedia has a list: https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrid_Lindgren-filmer

Thank you so much. Very helpful.

Smultronstället (wild strawberries) is an old Bergman film from 1957 i believe, with a wonderful story, and is also on you tube.

Thank you so much! I think you're an English speaker, aren't you? I see that you reached 18. level in Swedish. May I ask, is that level enough to understand such a movie? Or do you use any other source to develop it?

        https://www.duolingo.com/profile/carloscids

        I recommend Force Majeure (2014)

        https://www.duolingo.com/profile/safakaratas

        Thank you Carlos!

I have enjoyed all of these ... Simon and the Oak, Mother of Mine, Let the Right One In, We Are the Best, As It Is In Heaven, The Millenium Trilogy

And these tv shows... Bron ( The Bridge),
        Wallander , Vem Vet Mest

Thank you so much. I see that you are on 19. level in Swedish. I wonder do you understand these movies? Or can you read subtitles and understand them all?

        https://www.duolingo.com/profile/mary597409

I understand way more than I used to, but, I still need the subtitles! I enjoy the challenge to see what I can pick up ( or remember!). It's always fun though.

        Hi

        I recommend "Sune i fjällen" .

This isn't a movie but a series (hope you don't mind) it's called Akta Manniskor (aka Real Humans) it's really good. :)

        https://www.duolingo.com/profile/safakaratas

Thank you very much. It is even better so I can continue to develop myself :)
