Is this the ordinary word order? "needs to study today Hebrew" Would it sound strange to a native speaker if I said, התלמיד צריך ללמוד עברית היום ?

"The student has to learn Hebrew today" What's wrong?

Wouldn't it be התלמיד צריך ללמוד עברית היום, not התלמיד צריך ללמוד היום עברית? The latter sounds like "the student needs to learn today Hebrew", but in English proper grammar would be the former (the student needs to learn Hebrew today" Is one of them more grammatically correct in Hebrew?
