check out the language incubator http://incubator.duolingo.com - the reverse course is currently constructed meaning that English to Russian could come some time within the next months

Learn the alphabet first. Then you can support the "commies" ^__^

Hahaha, at last someone with a sense of humor! ^_^

But I looked at the wikipedia page for the alphabet, it seems do-able. It will definetly require more effort than Spanish, that's a guarentee.

I'd say with Russian, the alphabet is probably the easiest bit. I taught myself the alphabet a few years ago, and it didn't take an insane amount of effort. But the difference between typed and handwritten Russian is a nightmare! Russia today has a section for language learners, here : http://learnrussian.rt.com/

My Russian is in no way advanced (I can only quote and understand a few lines of Pasternak), but I'd say it's probably best to learn the handwritten stuff at the same time as the rest of the alphabet so it can't sneak up on you. Hope the link helps, and that you can make good progress with the basics of the language before the duo version is released :D
