Immersion Thieves...

Has anyone else notice that people will go and change your translations in Immersion, but, don't actually change it? They are just trying to get the XP?

I have had this happen, too many times, in the last week. What are my options here?

Note: I am not trying to rant. I am trying to solve an issue that is negative in a learning environment. It is no different than a student stealing credit for another student's work in the classroom.

Move to another article.

There might be a way to upload an article and keep it private so that only you can work on it; I haven't used Immersion in a long time so I'm not certain about that.

Quit using Immersion and start reading news websites with the ReadLang browser plug-in (http://readlang.com/fr/dashboard). It translates words when you click on them, and it makes flashcards for you. It uses spaced repetition for flashcard review. It's pretty great.

For French, check out RFI Savoirs (https://savoirs.rfi.fr/). You can take a test to see if you're A1, A2, B1... and then you can target articles, quizzes, and exercises at your level and on topics that interest you. I've only discovered this resource recently so can't say a lot more about it. It looks great so far.

Well, that is extremely useful info. I love the Immersion section, on here. If what you recommended is similar, I am sure I will adore that, too. Thank you.

My main reason for sticking with this site, though, is the cohesive learning experience between Skills, Immersion, and the estimated Fluency rating.

Yes, that's one of the big issues with Immersion (which Duolingo stopped to developed at least one year ago so it doesn't look like there'll be improvements to prevent that unfortunately).

What are my options here?

Thank you for the reply. I did not know that about Immersion. I will report this person, though. :)

I have not been using immersion recently, but what you describe has been complained about for the entire length of time I have been here. Please remember that the learning that is being disturbed is not yours, but theirs. You did the original translation, and, presumably, learned what you could. They did nothing, and, presumably, learned nothing. I just stopped letting it bother me.

Immersion is plagued with Duobotters and XP stealers, when Duolingo gets around to fixing it they're going to have to make some big changes to immersion to make it better for everybody.

when Duolingo gets around to fixing it [...] make some big changes to immersion

Not likely to happen since they stopped developing/improving Immersion long ago. Cf. for example here (and the references there).

That's disappointing, I use immersion once in a while, and it really helps. (P.s. I used this https://www.duolingo.com/comment/13320933 for my cause of saying "when they get around to it" because this admin implied it), but you're right, they probably won't get around to it.

Immersion should be used only with the learning you have not duobotting all the time.

I'd say immersion should only be used after a certain point in the tree or after a certain level, because there are lots of accounts that start off just to be trolls and use immersion to level up quickly and spam the forums.

Does this happen?? Wow, I hadn't noticed... (That sounds sarcastic, apologies:P) But thank you for notifying us...

From what I'm gathering, that is basically an exploit that shouldn't affect your personal xp negatively--but I see the point of your principle. In fact, the only ones being theoretically harmed here are the exploiters; they cheat themselves out of the intended lesson and thus experience. :)
