What about "in these houses live poor people"? Does it sound horrible in English?
Yeah... the word order is a bit messed up. Starting with "In these houses" could be justified if you wanted to emphasize the location but after that "poor people live" would be better. Sorry!
I put that in too....and reported it as an acceptable answer, since it means exactly the same thing as their english answer.
